Air Defense
The Air Defense is one of the most critical defensive buildings in the Home Village. Without it, your base is completely vulnerable to air attacks.
Overview
Air Defense targets a single air unit at a time and deals massive damage per shot. It has a long range but a slow attack speed — meaning it's best used to shred high-HP air tanks like Dragons, Balloons, and Lava Hounds.
Tip: Always surround your Air Defenses with walls and keep them spread out. Losing all three to a single Lightning Spell combo is one of the most common mistakes at TH8.
What it targets
- Dragons
- Balloons
- Lava Hound (and Lava Pups)
- Minions
- Baby Dragon
- Electro Dragon
- Inferno Dragon
It does not target ground troops. For ground splash, see the Mortar.
Upgrade priorities
| Town Hall | Recommended Level | Why | |-----------|-------------------|-----| | TH7 | Max (level 6) | Dragons are the dominant attack | | TH8 | Max (level 7) | Hog + Dragon combos everywhere | | TH9 | Level 8 ASAP | Laloon starts here | | TH10+ | Always max | Electro Dragon meta |
Placement tips
- Spread them out — don't cluster all three Air Defenses in one compartment
- Central coverage — at least one should cover your TH
- Avoid corners — corner ADs are easy to funnel around
- Don't place near Air Sweepers — the Sweeper already handles pathing; let AD handle raw damage
Common threats it counters
Dragons
Dragons are tanky and deal splash damage. A well-placed AD can eliminate a Dragon before it reaches your core.
Lava Hound + Balloon (Laloon)
The Lava Hound soaks AD fire while Balloons flood in behind. Spread your ADs to split the Hound's attention across multiple buildings.
Electro Dragon
High HP + chain lightning makes the E-Drag terrifying. At max level, a single AD shot still hurts it badly.
